What you get
Everything you need to actually study chess
This is not a PGN viewer. It's the database, the engine, the repertoire and the review system, all working on the same games.
A real database
Collections for reference, repertoires, model games, tactics, endgames… with advanced search, sorting by any column and PGN import at absurd sizes.
Search by position
Move the pieces and instantly see how many games reached it, what was played there and how it ended, with the win/draw/loss bar.
Two analysis engines
Stockfish 18 inside the browser, nothing to install. And, if you have one, Stockfish or Leela Chess Zero on a GPU server — both at once on the same position.
Repertoires that keep themselves
When you import your own games, chessgrit tells you where you left the repertoire and files the work as a pending task.
Spaced repetition training
Lines you know come back later and later; lines you miss come back tomorrow. With daily goals, days per week and an activity map.
Opponent preparation
Type your opponent's name and see their real opening tree, by colour, time control and period.
Database and analysis
Every position, with everything else beside it
The board doesn't work alone: next to it you get the notation with variations and comments, the reference statistics, the repertoire games that reach the position, and the engine.
- Full variation tree with comments, NAGs, arrows and highlighted squares — imported from PGN or drawn by you.
- Reference panel with the game count and the outcome of every continuation.
- Repertoire panel ♔/♚ with your own lines and the related model games.
- Threat mode: see what your opponent would play if it were their move.
- Full editor: headers, starting position, promote and delete variations, truncate lines.

Training
Talent is one part; showing up is the rest
chessgrit doesn't just store what you study: it asks you again on the day it matters. Repertoires, endgames, tactics, calculation and strategy, all in the same review system.
- Spaced review at 1 → 3 → 7 → 14 → 30 days, and "mastered" after four correct runs in a row.
- Daily goal and training days per week, with today's remaining count.
- A 52-week activity map: consistency you can see at a glance.
- Drills per area, random repertoire drill and a guess-the-move mode over model games.
- Training that happens outside the app (books, lessons, club) fits in too, so you can tick it off.

Can I import my ChessBase database?
Yes. chessgrit imports PGN of any size — gigabyte files and entire folders — keeping variations, comments, NAGs and the arrows and highlighted squares. It can also connect to sources like TWIC, chess-results, Chess.com and Lichess to keep itself up to date.
Do I need to install an analysis engine?
No. Stockfish 18 runs inside your browser, with no installation and no cost. If you have your own GPU server, chessgrit can connect to it for much faster analysis and to use Leela Chess Zero as well.
Does it work offline?
The desktop app has a local mode with the database on your own computer: everything works the same, with or without internet.
Which languages does it speak?
Catalan, Spanish and English — both the app and this website.
Are my games mine?
Yes. You can export any collection as PGN or as a portable file and take it with you whenever you want. There's no lock-in.
