Studying is good. Remembering it is better.
The name isn't an accident: grit is consistency. chessgrit is built so that you come back every day, and so that what you study today comes back to you just before you'd forget it.
How spaced repetition works
Every line in your repertoire carries its own schedule. Get it right and it moves further away; get it wrong and you'll see it tomorrow.
- 1
You drill a line
You play the moves on the board; the app answers for your opponent and checks yours.
- 2
Right answers push it away
The next review moves to 1 day, then 3, 7, 14 and 30. Four correct runs in a row and it's marked as mastered.
- 3
A miss brings it back
The line drops to "learning" and you'll see it again straight away, as many times as it takes.
- 4
The dashboard picks for you
You don't have to decide what's next: the train button opens whatever has been waiting longest.

Five ways to train
Because memorising an opening and understanding an endgame have nothing in common.
Repertoire
Every line of a game, main line and variations, with the opponent answering by the book.
Endgames
Sessions of 5, 10, 20 or 30 positions, no hints, with the result recorded in the review system.
Tactics and calculation
Find the move. The same flow, with collections built for each purpose.
Strategy
The position asks for a plan rather than a move: the comment is revealed and you grade yourself.
Model games
Guess-the-move over annotated games, with the explanation as the reward.
Your training plan
A goal you can actually keep beats a perfect one you abandon in week two.
- A daily goal, whole or split by area: this much repertoire, this much endgames, this much tactics.
- Training days per week, from 0 to 7: if Monday and Thursday are off, we don't count them as a failure.
- Work outside the app — exercises from a book, the club lesson — listed in the plan so you can tick it off.
- A 52-week activity map and a change history for your goals, showing who touched them and when.
- If you have a coach, you can both adjust them, and the record shows who changed what.
